¡á Conditions
¤· Those who are completed the alien registration
and fall under the following category
- Company insurance: Employers or employees whose company covers
the insurance
- Local insurance: The following status of sojourn holders, their
spouse and children under 20, except for those who are
- under company insurance
¡Ø Eligible status of sojourn: F-2 (residence), F-5(permanent
residence), D-1(Culture and art) ~D-9(Trade management),
-- E-1(Professor) ~E-5(Special profession),
E-7(Special activity) ~E-8(Training employment), F-1(Korean spouse
and
-- children among the status of visit
and cohabitation)
¡á Procedure and required documents
¤· Company: Employers apply for the insurance with
required documents.
¤· Local: Visit nearby insurance office and apply with alien registration
card and passport.
¡á Insurance imposition and payment
¤· Company
- Salary * Company insurance rate (Employer pays
50% out of the insurance fee)
- Insurance bill is taken from the salary.
- Insurance payment duty starts back from the time of employment
(applied retroactively).
¤· Local
- When you have income: income * Company insurance
rate
- When you do not have income: Average local insurance fee at the
late of the previous year (students are deducted 30%)
- Prepayment plan by each 3-month period (However, Holders of F-1,
F-2, F-5 pay monthly just as the Korean nationals.)
- Insurance payment duty starts back from the time of employment
(applied retroactively).

¡á A non-Korean who plans to stay in Korea for over 90 days
after his or her arrival
¡á A non-Korean born in Korea who wants to extend
his or her stay to over 90 days after the granting date of the status
of
-- sojourn, or a non-Korean who will
be staying in Korea for more than 90 days after his or her arrival
by receiving a
-- permission for status
¡á Alien Registration: Exceptions
- The following foreigners are exempted from the
alien registration.
¡Ü Officials and their family who are
covered under diplomacy, public service, and agreement (A-1, A-2,
A-3)
¡Ü Those who handle an important work
for diplomacy, industry, and defense, and their family, and foreign
nationals who
---- the Justice Minister specially
consider it necessary to exempt from the alien registration
¡Ü Canadian nationals who wish to stay
less than 6 months and belong to the following status of sojourn
¡æ Culture and
--- art (D-1), Religion (D-6), Visit
and cohabitation (F-1), Accompanying (F-3), and Others (G-1)
When should register
¡á A non-Korean who plans to stay in Korea for
over 90 days after his or her arrival ¡æ Within 90 days of arrival
¡á A non-Korean who received the status of sojourn
or the changing status of sojourn ¡æ At the time when received the
-- status (right then)
¡Ü Example: When a Canadian national who holds
B-2 (travel pass) visa wishes to change the status of sojourn after
-- staying 5 month in Korea, he or she
should apply for the alien registration at the time of application
to change the status

receipt ( for a trainee
who is recommended by a trainee recommendation organization),
guaranty insurance (for a trainee by an oversea investment)
General training (D-4): Certificate of student to
an institute (College attached language training), related document
regarding the establishment of training organization (other training)
Reporting (D-5): certificate of branch office establishment
or a copy of the certificate of business registration
Corporate investment (D-8): a copy of the certificate
of foreign-invested company registration, a copy of the certificate
of business registration
Residency (D-7), Religion (D-6), Trading Management
(D-9), Professor (E-1), Conversation Teaching (E-2), Research (E-3),
Technical Guidance (E-4), Specialized Profession (E-5), Non-specialized
Employment(E-9), Special Activities (E-7): a copy of the certificate
of business registration
Arts Promotion (E-6): a copy of the certificate of
business registration, a confirmation certificate of HIV test negative
response (only to those who are in the category)
Crew (E-10): Certificate of passenger carrier business
license or Certificate of freight transportation registration, certificate
of health, accident insurance receipt
Visit and cohabitation (F-1): Certificate of birth
or a copy of family register, Home assistants of public officials
to Korea : a copy of the public official¡¯s ID,
Home assistants of high investment foreigners: a
copy of employer¡¯s alien registration card
Residency (F-2): Family register (marriage status),
spouse¡¯s personal reference
Accompany (F-3): A copy of spouse or parent¡¯s Alien
Registration Card
Others (G-1): Documents that proves the reasons
Travel Employment (H-1): Travel itinerary or activity
plan, or certificate of employment (corresponding person only)
¡Ø Residence (F-4): Persons who should report their
address

¡á Alien Registration Card is issued by the
local immigration office.

Reissuance of Alien Registration Card
¡á Reasons of reissuance
¡Ü When you lost your Alien Registration Card
¡Ü When your Alien Registration Card is damaged
¡Ü When you want to add the necessary information
¡Ü When your information (name, sex, date of
birth, and nationality) is changed
¡á You should apply within 14 days when the
reasons of reissuance occur.

Separate Issuance of Alien Registration Card
¡á The following aliens should receive Alien Registration
Card separately.
¡Ü A foreign national who is 17 years old whose
name is registered as a company on the Alien Registration Card of
his
--- or her parent or custodian.
¡Ü A foreign national who wishes to receive an Alien
Registration Card due to his or her parent¡¯s departure from Korea
and
-- other reasons
¡á Application of separate issuance of Alien Registration
Card should be made within 60 days from the date of becoming
-- 17 years old.
¡á Required documents: Passport, 2 color photos

Returning Alien Registration Card
Reasons of returning Alien Registration Card
¡á You must return the Alien Registration Card to the immigration
office when you have the following reasons.
¡Ü When the registered foreign national leaves Korea
permanently
¡Ü When the registered foreign national quits the
original nationality and acquires Korean nationality
¡Ü When the registered foreign national is dead
¡Ü When the registered foreign national belongs to
the exceptions of the alien registration
When the Alien Registration Card should be returned
¡á When you leave out of Korea permanently
¡á Within 14 days from the date you acquire
the Korean nationality
¡Ü Spouse, parent, custodian, or yourself should
return the card with the documents of acquiring Korean nationality
- and quitting the original nationality.
¡á When deceased
¡Ü Spouse, parent, or custodian should return the
card with the documents of diagnosis or death certificate that prove
the
-- fact of death within 14 days from
knowing the fact or within 30 days from the date of death
¡á When the Alien Registration Card is not returned within the due
period, a negligence fine is imposed.
Carrying and Submission of Alien Registration Card
¡á Foreign national residents of Korea should
always carry their passport, visa, or alien registration cards.
(However,
-- this rule does not apply for foreign
national residents who are under 17 years old)
¡á Foreign nationals should present to show their
passport and alien registration card when they are requested as
-- immigration officials or authorized
officials (including Si, Gun, Gu registration officers) handle their
jobs
-- (registration related).
¡á If you fail to present to show your passport and
alien registration card when you are requested, you are obliged
to pay
-- penalty under the immigration law
